Our recent workshop all about creating innovative clay textures took place against a back drop of an intense winter storm. So whilst the students were busy mixing curious ingredients into clay, slapping on thick slips or stretching clay after blasting it with heat, the rain and wind pummelled down outside.
It made for a cosy if surreal atmosphere, warm and dry inside versus monsoon like conditions outside and everyone focussed on understanding new techniques and how much fun you can have playing around with materials.
A couple of the standout materials were sugar and sodium silicate – both transform clay in interesting ways that open a world of possibilities. We’ll be running this workshop again in 2019 – so if you’re interested then keep an eye out for our workshop promotions in November.
