Latest Firing

  • Studio

Our latest firing was on the 31st December, a unique way to see in the new year. We had an excellent crew of stokers, and a constant flow of visitors. Luckily the weather was decent, not like the day before when a thunderstorm dumped 7cm of rain in 2 hours. The kiln seemed to take ages to load, it was one of those jobs that expanded to fit the schedule, which was a bit haphazard. I experimented with a spark arrestor to see what effect I got, it didn’t change the way the kiln worked, but as I don’t get many embers shooting out of the chimney I’m not sure if that part worked. It did look excellent after the firing finished – a glowing pyramid on the chimney. For more images of my pots check out my website at www.duncanshearer.co.nz
